Davit Gareja is one of the most famous sites in Georgia and all of the Caucuses.  It is a series of ancient monasteries that are carved into and on top of a huge rock formation on the border of Azerbaijan.  Davit Gareja or David the Builder was one of the thirteen ‘Syrian Fathers’ who spread Christianity around Georgia in the 6th century.
